Invitation: 17th of November 2021 - Final Conference of the EU-funded project RAMSSES

On 17th of November 2021, the RAMSSES partners are inviting to the final conference to share project outcomes and impacts. The event will be a unique opportunity to discuss pioneering solutions for a challenging topic of the maritime industry with major representatives from across Europe. Project experts will share their experiences and good practices with composite, metallic and multi-material solutions. The session will among others provide in-depth information on design, process engineering, testing and validation.

It is organized in collaboration with RAMSSES partner Naval Group in Nantes, France and will be executed digitally. The program includes presentations on lightweight applications (first day) as well as manufacturing and industrial process methods (second day).

Key milestone achieved!

successful vertical infusion of a 6m high composite hull section

On 18th July, the Realisation and Demonstration of Advanced Material Solutions for Sustainable and Efficient Ships (RAMSSES) project reached a key milestone. On that date, at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding’s (DSNS) location in Vlissingen-East, the Netherlands, the project’s partners unveiled the recently assembled full scale composite ship’s hull section they have been developing these past three years.

The FIBRESHIP and RAMSSES joint approach “Towards Safety of Composite Ships”, was presented in London (UK) during the last IMO SDC7 (Ship Design and Construction Comitee) at IMO headquarters. Both European R&D projects, RAMSSES and FIBRESHIP, share similar goals on the using of FRP (Fibre-Reinforced Polymers) in the Shipping and Shipbuilding industry but with different approaches to face the technical challenges

Summary: E-LASS in Vigo

In June, E-LASS gathered stakeholders in Vigo, Spain to discuss maritime lightweight materials and solutions. The event which was hosted by AIMEN, offered participants a chance to learn more about several on-going projects within the sector, as well as interesting solutions provided by some of the companies attending the seminar day. An industry tour was also arranged with stops at Galventus, FERRI and Cardama.

Uljanik received JEC Innovations Award

In the framework of the JEC World 2018, the Leading International Composite Show, which took place in Paris from 6th to 8th of March, we took the opportunity to meet up with some of the other project partners. The well-attended trade fair with its 1.300 exhibitors and about 40.000 visitors serves as well-established platform for some of the RAMSSES partners specialized in the production and application of composites and other lightweight materials.

CMT, responsible for communication management in RAMSSES (including dissemination, technology transfer and future concepts), attended JEC world 2018. Indeed, a broad range both of composite materials, processing technologies and application areas were represented. Applications in shipbuilding still have a minor share.

Launch of the Website

Collaboration with E-Lass

RAMSSES will closely cooperate with the E-LASS network (www.e-lass.eu), a European network for lightweight applications at sea which was established in 2013 and currently has 240 members. Both initiatives will organise public events every six months. This cooperation will also be open to other European and national research projects of relevance. E-LASS will also continue to maintain the RAMSSES knowledge database after the end of the project. Companies and individuals interested to participate in the network are encouraged to contact RAMSSES or E-Lass.
